And, yes, the thru-bolt must be removed but less chance of losing that than a small bolt or spring. Converting to the thru-bolt allows me to drop the wheel down instead of rearward to remove it so no need to remove brake bolts. A PITA with the possibility of losing a brake bolt or QR spring in the middle of nowhere. The bike has horizontal drop outs so to remove the rear wheel in case of a flat means unbolting the brake caliper to pivot it out of the way and completely removing the QR skewer in order to slide the wheel to the rear and out. I own an Origin8 CX700 monster cross bike that I've set up with Avid BB7 disc brakes with the rear brake mounted to the seat stay. This DT Swiss 10 x 135 thru-bolt has solved a problem I haven't had yet.
